Designed through iterative site and axonometric modeling, the facility positions its entry and administrative offices for direct sightlines to approaching visitors while shielding the shelter program to ensure privacy and security. In response to severe floodplain constraints, early hydrology modeling informed a structure elevated on piers, allowing floodwaters to pass unobstructed beneath while integrating a utility crawlspace. Partnering with the Community Office for Resource Efficiency (CORE), the design targets Net Zero Energy under the Zero Code, aligning rigorous energy modeling, solar orientation, and height-limit zoning compromises with the organization’s capital campaign milestones.
