JOB CAPTAIN/ DESIGNER 2

The Job Captain / Designer II helps move assigned projects forward through design contribution, strong technical execution, documentation, coordination, and consistent follow-through.
Working under the direction of the Project Manager / Senior Project Manager and in collaboration with the PA/Technology Lead, the Job Captain / Designer II helps translate design intent into clear, coordinated, buildable architecture.
The ideal candidate combines strong Revit and architectural office experience with curiosity, construction intelligence, initiative, and practical problem-solving. They take increasing ownership of their work, identify issues early, bring forward thoughtful ideas and recommended solutions, and understand when to act independently, collaborate, or elevate an issue.
Site Architects values a collaborative design process. Job Captains / Designer IIs are expected to contribute ideas and challenge assumptions thoughtfully while respecting established project roles, client relationships, and final decisions.

Understand project priorities, deadlines, and established design direction.
Take increasing ownership of defined portions of projects and communicate concerns early.
Support Designers and project staff through clear coordination and collaborative problem-solving.

IDEAL JOB CAPTAIN / DESIGNER II AVATAR

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR

The ideal Site Architects Job Captain / Designer II is a steady, curious, technically capable architectural professional who enjoys turning good ideas into well-resolved buildings.
They want to understand how and why things work—not simply complete tasks. They get satisfaction from solving a difficult detail, catching a coordination issue, improving a solution, and ultimately seeing something they helped draw become built work.
They understand that collaboration does not mean consensus on every decision. They contribute their perspective openly and respectfully, share credit generously, and once a decision is made, can carry it forward without needing their idea to prevail.

LIKELY DISC FIT

Primary Target: C/s
Strong Alternative: S/c

DISC is a guide rather than a hiring requirement. We are looking for strong Conscientiousness and Steadiness, with enough Dominance to take ownership, make recommendations, question something that does not make sense, and speak up rather than wait for direction.

The goal is someone who can think independently while working collaboratively—neither passively compliant nor overly attached to having their own idea selected.

THE PERSON

Construction curious: Wants to understand how buildings go together and learn from builders, consultants, materials, sequencing, and the field.
Present before prescriptive: Listens and understands the project, site, client, and constraints before jumping to a solution.
Curious without being combative: Asks why, questions assumptions, and looks for better possibilities.
Confident without being entitled: Advocates for ideas while remaining genuinely open to another solution being better.
Proactive without overstepping: Takes initiative while understanding project roles and decision-making responsibility.
Technically energized: Enjoys Revit, documentation, detailing, coordination, and figuring out how buildings work.
Accountable + service-oriented: Owns mistakes, communicates early, follows through, shares credit, and helps teammates succeed.

These qualities reflect Site Architects’ values of Presence, Curiosity, Integrity, Service, and Connection.

WHAT SHOULD ENERGIZE THEM

Seeing possibility become something real—connecting ideas, drawings, coordination, and built work.
Meaningful responsibility and opportunities to contribute ideas rather than simply execute redlines.
Working across both larger, complex projects and smaller projects with greater exposure to the full project lifecycle.
Seeing how their work gets built. Site Architects intentionally creates opportunities for developing staff to gain exposure to construction administration, site observation, contractors, RFIs, submittals, and real-world constructability—even before they are ready to lead CA.
Learning from experienced architects, consultants, contractors, and teammates.
Strong Revit/BIM systems and continued technical development.
A path toward greater Project Architect and/or Project Manager responsibility.
